You are contributing to cycling advocacy in Queensland – Bicycle Queensland (BQ) is a not-for-profit, community and advocacy organisation promoting safe, everyday bicycle riding. BQ’s advocacy department listens to members and provides the collective voice to councils and government in Queensland. We meet regularly with politicians and planners to persuade them to improve cycling facilities in Queensland. We also advise government engineers on suitable designs for cycling facilities.
BQ supports programs encouraging cycling and making cycling more accessible to potential cyclists, and we encourage and support local groups lobbying for better cycling conditions in their area. We are a voice for cycling in government, media and community circles, and present well-reasoned, evidence-based arguments. As BQ is a membership-based organisation, the more members there are, the bigger the voice for cycling (tell your friends!).
You are insured while riding your bike – BQ has worked closely with our insurer to design a comprehensive insurance program for members. This insurance cover applies when members are riding their bike on a 24/7 basis worldwide, including social rides, commuting to work, training rides and organised cycling events (excluding racing).
You get legal advice for riding incidents from CycleLaw (a division of McInnes Wilson Lawyers), who closely affiliated with BQ. Their team of experienced insurance lawyers is passionate about ensuring cycling victims are treated fairly when defending their rights and that they are compensated for the full extent of their loss.
CycleLaw recognises that not all members of the cycling community in Queensland have access to money to pay a lawyer up front for advice. Often the very reason you are seeking legal advice is because you are suffering financially as a result of being unable to work or you are on reduced wages because you are a victim of negligence. That is why CycleLaw operates on a no win, no fee basis which means you are not required to pay any legal fees or disbursements until the successful conclusion of your claim.

A monthly eNewsletter- Every month your inbox will receive the latest news from BQ which covers advocacy, events and other news of interest to members.
Expert advice on most cycling matters – BQ has been around since August 1979 (click here to read more about our History). While Queensland is now a very different place to ride a bike, we have been there with our members advising on all things cycling every step of the way (or rotation of the pedal).
Bicycle Maintenance Workshops
On a monthly basis, BQ employs a bike mechanic to run a discounted course for members on bike maintenance. There is a basic and intermediate course which will save you some dollars and keep everything rolling smoothly between services.
