Tap-and-go CityCycle system to go live from July
Brisbane City Council aims to have all 150 CityCycle stations equipped with tap-and-go pay systems from July in a major overhaul of the current hire scheme.
Credit and debit card facilities will be available at every station allowing users to sign up on the spot as opposed to having to sign up online as required under the old system.
It is hoped that this new simpler system will encourage more people to sign up as CityCycle users.
The new prices are also more appealing. Just $2 for 24 hours, hires under 30 minutes long are free, and regular users can subscribe from $5 per month ($3 for students).
Despite a slow initial take up since its inception in 2008, subscriptions reached 266,000 in May this year, rising by 76,000 in the 2016/17 financial year.
