BQ gets a gong!
Bike Week 2017 saw Brisbane host the Australian Bicycle Summit for the first time. Many attendees stayed on at the Queensland Cricketers Club at the Gabba for a fine night’s dining, talking and listening at the Cycling Promotion Fund’s national achievement awards for 2017.
BQ was thrilled to receive the leadership Award, through CEO Ben Wilson, accepting the award as a tribute to the work and standing of BQ in the state and national cycling space.
International cycling guru Tim Blumenthal (USA) and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey both gave key addresses during the evening. While not promising the billion dollars in the budget we want, Minister Bailey did give strong commitments to cycling across the state from his government. The minister also showed a rare high level of enthusiasm by attending the day-time Q & A seminar and staying on for the evening dinner and awards until late. A BQ award goes to the minister for not disappearing out the side door as is the norm!
BQ congratulates all other nominees and winners on the night, including the lucky winners: Tasmania’s Dorset Council for the Blue Derby Trails Project, ACT’s Physical Activity Foundation for Ride or Walk to School Program encouraging more cycling amongst kids, and sometime Queenslander Jordana Blackman from Chicks Who Ride Bikes for receiving the Women’s Cycling Development Award.
