Is your e-bike about to become illegal?
Join Bicycle Queensland and local Bicycle User Groups for a pop-up advocacy event calling for urgent amendments to Queensland’s draft e-mobility laws. Join us at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at the end of the Kangaroo Point Bridge from 7:15am – 8:30am Tuesday 21st April.
Not only will the new legislation make Queensland the hardest place in the world to ride safe, legal e-bikes – it won’t solve the issue of unregistered electric motorbikes. We will be inspecting real-world e-bikes from everyday riders to demonstrate how many currently safe, legal e-bikes may be negatively impacted by the proposed changes and made non-compliant. A live tally will highlight the scale of the issue.

What’s happening
- Live e-bike “compliance” inspections
- Rider interviews and community stories
- Speeches from Bicycle Queensland and advocacy leaders
- Media coverage and livestreaming
The proposed changes risk:
- Making more than 200,000 safe, legal e-bikes effectively illegal
- Making e-bike use ineffective by mandating 10km/h limits on shared paths
- Restricting access through age limits and licensing requirements
BQ is calling for practical, evidence-based amendments that support safe, accessible riding for everyone.
