Bruce: rec rider, MTB (and DH)
Rod: From Ipswich BUG. With MAD BUG, Retired, rec rider. Would love to ride between moore park beach and bundy. Lacking connectivity, tricky to find quiet back roads. Moore Park road is dangerous
Sally: MTBer. Rides Promised Land 2-3x week. Sec of MTB club, retired. Loves the MTBing. Club is small. Hard to have events when you don’t have members. Hard to get members when the AC club cost is so high. Doesn’t see the point in insurance. Social rides once a month.
Nick: Riding 8 years – northern rivers around Kyogle. Moved here 2 years ago, mostly does MTB. Helps w trail maintenance – some gravel in downtime in the backroads. Some racing at Gladstone etc when possible. Club rail trail maintenance – organised by Sally/Michael/Brad. Getting support via funding from state govt/state forest/parks is v hard.
Steve: member since 2008. Done a number of Cycle QLD rides. Has a household membership. Rides backroads and rail trails. Wife crashed, insurance made a big difference on torn shoulder – great result on recovery ‘no out of pocket expenses’. Does trips away on rail trails. Trails/tracks behind caravan park.
Nick 2: Bugara social cycle group. Weekly rides on coastal paths. Around 12-20 riders each week (mostly seniors, emtb, road bikes), Aims to mix it up with routes.1-2 trips a year to rail trails. Potential for Bugara to Bundy path, and to Elliot Heads. Has spoken to Tom smith. Looking at dual lane so won’y consider bike path at this time
Brendan: BUG prez, Sunday ride from town to wherever, back roads, org a community bike ride each year (just not this year). Aiming to encourage ppl to ride. Trs of Bundy club (velodrome) ~100 members. Had state road champs. Crit on closed estate, RR at Tarone (SW Gin Gin). Traffic control hitting at $30k. SES can wrangle it for community event. Wife Astrid rides w Pink Flamingoes womens cycling group (is expanding). Also district director for TMR – capacity in road reserve is always a challenge. Was old rail line but all land resumed.
Matt Gees: Radio/media. Of interest to my community
Signage – most relevant for people who move to Bundy. On and off road.
Signage to the mountain bike trails also useful – TMR option?
School does a Kokoda walk each year, uses the trails for training. Scouts use the tracks as an adventure day. Horses use the area (encouraged not to use singletrack). All state forest land.
Reference group folded w change of govt. Not spoken to new mayor yet.
Cr Carmen Mcenarney Div 6 has sport and rec portfolio.
New CEO starting.
Nick 2: with new mayor on heritage committee, good involvement.
Potential for more discussion with bike riders and elected members. Let them know the reference group has finished and that’s missed. MTBers feel they have given up communicating w council. State forest certainly unresourced to help w club. Trail audit coming (sustainable and safe). Some issues waiting to get hung up trees sorted out.
Parks need the sport and rec funding grants.
Motorbikes on trails an issue
Near showground, dirt jumps built. Council bulldozed (crown land) Kids have moved 300m down the road. Council is working on land w MTB club for jumps – where can they ride close to town? Promised land is 45min away. Pref to have skills park/jumps/pump track w facilities (bins) AND TRAINING.
Gin Gin rail trail – splitters creek bridge is a hurdle? State committed 9mil. 50/50 agreement. Council lead project. INVITE MAYOR TO RT FORUM?
BBIRT: funding coming from all areas, many stakeholders
Only one bridge over the river for bikes
Bundabert Int transport strategy about to go out.
Path to university going ahead 50/50 fed and state
Opp for ashfield road project w bike lane, near new fire station
Her Ride: Trixie the pink flamingo.
Opps for PCNP projects via co-funding? Priority A mostly close to town (short trip)
Advocating for RTs to become essential (disaster relief funding?)
