Bicycle Queensland has a number of retail members around the state, from Corry Cycles in Mackay, all the way south to Triple Six Fix at Burleigh Heads. Our retail members offer discounts for Bicycle Queensland members, and have details in store about what Bicycle Queensland membership involves.
Jamie Parsons is the owner, lead mechanic and head of customer service at Triple Six Fix. As you might have guessed, Jamie operates as a solo operator in his workshop. As a highly experienced and accomplished mechanic, Jamie set up his own operation during Covid, at first as a mobile mechanic in a van, around the same time he and his partner had their second child.
‘I think I lasted about 3 weeks with the van, before looking for a shop space!’ Jamie laughed. While a mobile mechanic service is useful and very adaptable, there are limits on what is possible, and a lot of time is lost on the driving and setup for each location. Jamie quickly realised he could service more bikes and help more people with a central location and a professionally set up workshop.
His workshop is one of the best equipped we have seen, with a lathe, walls of spares, and about three professional work stands and benches. The setup makes it easy for Jamie to work on multiple jobs at a time or to manage rebuild projects. Turning out high quality work takes a high level of organisation, and that is something that is apparent when visiting Triple Six Fix.
‘I have to be organised, there’s no choice,’ Jamie told us. ‘I offer a quote guarantee, which is done to avoid the bill shock that can happen from bike services. I need to have the time to accurately diagnose issues on a bike and give an accurate quote. And to avoid any unexpected costs, I’ll make contact with a bike owner if something else comes up while the bike is being serviced.’
To match the precision, Jamie also has a thorough booking service online. Via his website (666fix.com.au) you can choose what service you need, with a detailed explanation of what is done. You can add in any specific details – like what sort of creak it is – then choose a service date and plug your details in, including the bike. Jamie’s database will track the work done on your bike (or bikes!) to help keep track of their service history. If you’re a Bicycle Queensland member, Jamie will even take 10% off your total bill as well, which will make quite a difference on major services, especially if you have a couple of bikes.
‘It’s great to be working with Bicycle Queensland again,’ said Jamie. So if you’re on the Gold Coast and your bikes are in need of thorough and precise servicing, jump online and book your bike in.
