1. Terms and Conditions 

By purchasing a Bicycle Queensland membership, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions of Membership, which may change at any time. If you have purchased a Household membership, you agree to make each household member aged 18 or over aware of these Terms and Conditions and take responsibility for household members under 18 years of age. 

2. Terms of Membership 

Bicycle Queensland memberships are valid from the date of payment, or if purchased via an event registration or as a gift voucher, from the date of activation. Your membership and applicable insurance cover will stop at 11:59pm on the day your current membership expires. You can check your membership end date in the member portal or on your join/renewal correspondence. 

3. Consent to become a Member 

By completing this application, you: 

3.1. consent to become a member of Bicycle Queensland (in accordance with the Membership Categories), a company limited by guarantee pursuant to section 231 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth); 

3.2. acknowledge that you have received a copy of the Constitution of Bicycle Queensland and that it is available at https://bq.org.au/about-bq/governance/; 

3.3. acknowledge and agree that as a member, you agree to provide a guarantee to Bicycle Queensland of $10 (Guarantee Amount); 

3.4. undertake to contribute to the property of Bicycle Queensland, if Bicycle Queensland is wound up while you are a member or within one year of you ceasing to be a member for the purpose of Bicycle Queensland’s debts, liabilities, costs, charges and expenses of winding up and/or for the adjustment of rights of contribution among members for an amount not exceeding the Guarantee Amount.

5. Membership Categories 

Bicycle Queensland offers the following membership categories: 

5.1. Individual membership – membership for one person. Parent or guardian consent is required for purchasers under the age of 18. Please contact Bicycle Queensland for further information. 

5.2. Concession membership – membership for one person based on financial eligibility criteria (e.g. government concession card holders and full-time students). Seniors Cards alone do not determine financial eligibility for Concession membership. Parent or guardian consent is required for purchasers under the age of 18. Please contact Bicycle Queensland for further information. 

5.3. Household membership – can only be purchased by people who are 18 years of age or older on the date of purchase. Additional household members can include adults and children (less than 18 years of age) up to the maximum allowed by the type of Household membership. Additional household members must reside at the same residential address as the purchaser of the membership for over 50% of the membership period purchased. For Household memberships of 3 or more, unlimited household members who are related to the purchaser can be included in the membership, and not more than an additional 2 household members who are not related to the purchaser. 

5.4. Bicycle Queensland Supporter membership – membership for one person. Bicycle Queensland Supporter memberships include full Bicycle Queensland membership benefits except for insurance. Parent or guardian consent is required for purchasers under the age of 18. Please contact Bicycle Queensland for further information. 

5.5. E-scooter membership – membership for one person while riding a private e-scooter. Includes full Bicycle Queensland membership benefits excluding bike riding insurance. Parent or guardian consent is required for purchasers under the age of 18. Please contact Bicycle Queensland for further information. 

5.6. Retail membership – can be purchased by Bicycle retailers upon an approved application to Bicycle Queensland. 

5.7. Corporate Membership – can be purchased by corporate or community groups upon an approved application to Bicycle Queensland. 

5.8. An e-scooter membership add-on is available to purchasers of Individual or Concession memberships. It provides insurance while riding an e-scooter (refer 6.4). It is not available to Household or Bicycle Queensland Supporter memberships. 

6. Limitations on who is covered by our insurance 

6.1. All Bicycle Queensland members who have purchased a Bicycle Queensland membership, or who are part of a household membership, that includes insurance as a member benefit are covered. If you have purchased a Concession membership you will not be covered unless you have provided details to determine your eligibility for membership, i.e. concession card type, concession/student card reference number and expiry date. 

6.2. Members do not need to reside in Queensland to be covered by the Bicycle Queensland membership insurance. Our members reside Australia-wide and overseas. 

6.3. Further information is available in our Member Insurance Program Summary document, available on the Insurance page of the Bicycle Queensland website. 

6.4. E-scooter insurance covers members who purchase the E-scooter membership or E-scooter membership add-on. The insurance covers personal accidents (from 1/9/23) and public liability. It does not cover damage to members’ property while riding an e-scooter.

Insurance for e-scooter riders only applies to registered members who, at the operative time, are:-

  1. riding an e-scooter owned by the registered member; and
  2. complying with all laws and regulations of the State and/or Territory in which the e-scooter was being used at the operative time.

The insurance does not provide coverage to other personal mobility devices, including but not limited to, skateboards including electric skateboards, one wheels, segways, knee scooters, disability or gopher scooters. 

6.5. Members who purchase an E-scooter membership will not be covered for insurance while riding a bicycle (as detailed in section 5.5). 

7. Membership Payment Methods 

Bicycle Queensland accepts the following payment methods: 

8. Automatic Membership Renewal 

8.1. Purchasers of all new memberships or membership renewals online (annual or monthly) agree that their membership will automatically renew 14 days prior to expiry. By purchasing a membership you authorise Bicycle Queensland to charge your debit/credit card for the current membership price applicable to the current membership type you hold. We may change the price of membership from time to time. Price increases will be communicated to all members via the Bicycle Queensland website and monthly eNewsletter a minimum of one month prior to the price increase taking effect. 

8.2. Bicycle Queensland will send an email reminder 28 days prior to an annual membership expiry date to notify payment for the next membership period will be processed 14 days prior to the expiry date. Please note monthly memberships will not receive the email reminder. 

8.3. To cancel your membership you must contact Bicycle Queensland a minimum of 1 business day prior to your automatic renewal payment being processed, by emailing membership@bq.org.au or phoning 07 3844 1144. 

8.4. Renewal payments will be processed no earlier than 14 days prior to your membership expiry date until you opt-out of automatic annual membership renewal or cancel your monthly membership in accordance with the terms and conditions above. 

8.5. Automatic membership renewals will be based on the last valid credit card that is stored with our payment gateway. Bicycle Queensland does not store your credit card details. Our system communicates with our payment gateway via a token. If payment fails, we will contact you by email or phone to obtain updated payment details and renew your membership. 

9. Refunds 

Bicycle Queensland does not offer refunds or a transfer of membership to another party. When you sign up for a membership, you’re committed to continuing the membership for the full duration of the membership purchased. If you change to a lower priced membership there will be no refunds given. 

10. Upgrades 

Your Bicycle Queensland membership can be upgraded online via the member portal to a higher-priced annual membership. A pro-rata credit of the current paid membership will be applied to the price of the upgraded membership. The upgraded membership will commence from the date of payment of the calculated fee and continue for the duration of your existing membership.
