Bicycle Queensland and the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association (BVRTUA) are bringing a multi-day, catered, mass participation event back to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT). With the popularity of BQ’s multi-day events and the BVRT, you can guarantee that this event will be one to remember! Running from July 4 to July 6, the 3-day event includes an event shuttle, luggage transfers, main meals, and amenities.
Day 1: Yarraman to Linville
Day 2: Linville to Esk
Day 3: Esk to Wulkuraka
Each night will include catering for dinners (and breakfasts) and entertainment. This is a managed event from Yarraman to Wulkuraka, and an easy way to experience the journey from the northern end of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, off the range to Linville, and through the productive farmland and onto the outskirts of Ipswich.
Day 1 – Yarraman to Linville: 42km
This day actually starts in Wulkuraka where riders, their luggage and their bikes will be whisked to Yarraman to start the ride. Bikes will be packed in padded sleeves and transported by truck to Yarraman. Riders will travel in coaches to collect their bikes at Yarraman.
Riders will set off down the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail towards Linville, through some of the most ruggedly picturesque sections of the rail trail. This includes passing huge grass trees, and riding through Blackbutt and Benarkin. We’d suggest a stop at the Blackbutt Bakery for a pie.

After leaving Blackbutt towards Benarkin, there are amenities right on the trail for a last stop before descending off the range – a joyously long downhill with the wind in your hair (through your helmet, of course). You’ll pass through plantation timber and re-growth forest, and alongside some historic sidings with some signs to fill in the gaps for your knowledge of the history of the trail. next stop – Linville!
Once in Linville it is time to grab your luggage and set up camp. Showers and toilets will be onsite, and you can get all the details from the BQ Ride Reception tent. Grab a snack at the Linville Store and Cafe, or sidle up to the Linville Hotel for some refreshments.

A catered dinner will be served that evening, with limited charging options for e-bikes and phones at the BQ Ride Reception Tent.
Day 2 – Linville to Esk: 55km
Waking up fresh after a night under canvas (or polyester), it is time to tackle the next leg of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. A catered breakfast will be served with all the regular delights – you can visit the Linville Store and Cafe to order an espresso coffee, or use the hot water to make your own.
Make sure you get packed up and your luggage loaded onto the trucks, to ensure your tent and gear are at Esk for the evening. With snacks and water onboard for the day, it is time to hit the trail!
First to Moore and then onwards down the valley – today includes a trip through the Yimbun rail tunnel, and you’ll also pass through Toogoolawah – which could be a great place for lunch or morning tea, depending on your progress.

Riding towards Esk is flat to undulating, through some farmland typical of the area. It is a very pleasant ride, but no doubt the arrival in Esk will still be a relief after another day in the saddle. The Y2W camp will be alongside the Somerset Civic Centre, with showers and toilets. Esk has numerous businesses open for snack or refreshing beverage, and dinner will be catered at the Civic Centre.
Day 3 – Esk to Wulkuraka: 69km
You’re on the home stretch! This is one of the most popular stretches of the rail trail, as it is the closest end to Ipswich and Brisbane. Breakfast will be served and of course it will be time to pack up your tent and gear for the last time, to get loaded into the trucks to meet you at the finish.
The gentle climb to Mt Hallen will start the day, with excellent views to your right the whole way up. A gentle downhill towards Coominya passes a variety of farmland, and once in Coominya you can use the amenities or pick up a snack from the local supermarket. The next main stop is Lowood, passing an eclectic selection of bikes at a property on the way, and passing through the beautiful native plantings before town.

Fernvale is the next stop with the infamous Fernvale Bakery. Fuel up for the last leg as you ride towards Pine Mountain and the outskirts of Ipswich. You’ll arrive at Wulkuraka and the trail head, before following the signs to the event parking – you’ve made it. It’s time to grab your luggage, pack up and head back to reality after three great days on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.
What bike should I take to Y2W?
This event will be suitable for riders on mountain bikes and gravel bikes. Limited charging will be available for e-bikes. You will need to nominate if this is required during your event entry.
Ticketing will be open mid March with early bird pricing available for BQ Members – but save the date in your calendar: make sure you’re ready for the Y2W from 4-6 July 2025.
