Introducing our first of 5 BQ ambassadors, Kathryn! 🚴‍♀️We asked Kathryn what she loves about cycling and how she got started. "Cycling has taught me a lot about myself, my capabilities, my strength. It is about the friendships formed, sharing something I love with my family, all the coffee and spectacular views. It's about community…friendship…being a part of something. Being welcomed in, no matter age, skill, or ability. Belonging. I dabbled in triathlon in my early 20's and used to ride primarily to commute to the city in Brisbane, however after breaking my ankle in 2012, cycling became a large part of my rehabilitation from the many surgeries I have had. To be honest, it wasn't instant love, until after my subsequent ankle reconstruction in 2017. When I took on the challenge of a full Ironman, just 12 months post-reconstruction, I fell in love with the bike leg. I found my strength on two wheels and freedom that I've never had before. All of a sudden it was no longer 1/3 of the race, it became a discipline on its own. Since then, I've enjoyed brunch rides, Crit racing, and learnt the art of the coffee ride. I've enjoyed pushing myself outside my comfort zone on a mountain bike and introducing newbies to this great sport. But for me, nothing beats a long endurance ride; fresh air and freedom."
