Her Ride Gold Coast

Would you like to enhance your bike riding skills and build your confidence on two wheels? We are excited to offer our Her Ride program on the Gold Coast. The Her Ride initiative by Bicycle Queensland is proudly supported by the Queensland Government, to help women increase their confidence when riding, and expand their networks in the local riding community. 

Pre-requisites for joining

To participate, all you need is to be able to ride a bike confidently, have your own helmet and bike (road or hybrid preferred), and ensure your bike is in good working order. If you’re not sure, we encourage you to take your bike to your local bike shop in advance, to make sure it is safe to ride. 

This Her Ride course will run over a weekend, with a maximum of 36 riders.

Her Ride aims to improve your riding skills and knowledge. The goal is to help you build confidence on your bike and enable you to ride more often.

The Her Ride program
  • 10 hours of bike riding skill development sessions over 2 days
  • Session times are 8:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Run by professional riding coaches, you will learn bike maintenance, riding in groups, road riding, climbing and descending and more.
Other Inclusions
  • If you’re not a current BQ member, you have the opportunity to purchase an annual membership at a 25% discount during the event registration process. This offer is exclusively available to non-members, and during the event registration process only. 
  • Starter pack including Winners Nutrition
  • Complimentary lunch after each weekend session to debrief and build social connections.

What You’ll Experience

Across the weekend you’ll be guided step-by-step through the Her Ride course, a friendly and supportive program to deliver essential skills to develop safe riding habits for social riding.

Led by experienced female instructors, the course focuses on:

  • Bike confidence – balance, control, body positioning, gear choice and smooth braking
  • Safe riding habits – road awareness, signalling, and visibility
  • Legal skills – understanding Australian road rules for cyclists
  • Practical experience – real-world riding on quiet streets and shared paths
  • Personal empowerment – overcoming fear, building confidence, and discovering the freedom of cycling.

Day 1: Meet and greet, bike checks/set-up and introductory skills

  • Meet the coaches and other participants
  • Adjust and set up your bike and helmet
  • Mounting, dismounting and balancing
  • Master body positioning and movement on the bike
  • Learn how to start, stop, and steer safely
  • Build confidence in a relaxed, traffic-free setting

Day 2: Learn the Basics and Ride with Confidence

  • Higher level riding skills
  • Practice turning, signalling, and hazard awareness
  • Learn the essentials of safe road positioning
  • Gain experience riding on quiet local paths and streets
  • Enjoy a supported group ride through nearby scenic cycleways

By the end of the weekend, you’ll be able to ride confidently on your own, understand your rights and responsibilities on the road, and feel ready to explore more of your region by bike!

International Women’s Day Ride

Join Bicycle Queensland as we celebrate International Women’s Day, with a re-scheduled ride on March 16.

Our celebratory ride is a free of charge, ticketed event running from 6:30am on Sunday March 16, 2025. As a group we will tackle a 36km route from Albert Bishop Park, Nundah, out to Shorncliffe and return. Much of the route is on bikeways, but we suggest this ride is best suited to intermediate riders who are accustomed to riding in a bunch. Expect an average pace around 22-24km/h.

We’ll stop for a photo opportunity and selfie at Shorncliffe before making the return trip, and once back at Nuncah you can join us for coffee at the York Street Espresso Bar.

When: Sunday March 16 – arrived 6:15am for a 6:30am departure
Where: Albert Bishop Park, Nundah. Meet near the Bicycle Queensland flag at the carpark at the end of Hedley Avenue.
Who: Intermediate ability women road riders, 18 and over
