Join Bicycle Queensland and local Bicycle User Groups for a pop-up advocacy event calling for urgent amendments to Queensland’s draft e-mobility laws. Join us at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at the end of the Kangaroo Point Bridge from 7:15am – 8:30am Tuesday 21st April.
Not only will the new legislation make Queensland the hardest place in the world to ride safe, legal e-bikes – it won’t solve the issue of unregistered electric motorbikes. We will be inspecting real-world e-bikes from everyday riders to demonstrate how many currently safe, legal e-bikes may be negatively impacted by the proposed changes and made non-compliant. A live tally will highlight the scale of the issue.
What’s happening
Live e-bike “compliance” inspections
Rider interviews and community stories
Speeches from Bicycle Queensland and advocacy leaders
Media coverage and livestreaming
The proposed changes risk:
Making more than 200,000 safe, legal e-bikes effectively illegal
Making e-bike use ineffective by mandating 10km/h limits on shared paths
Restricting access through age limits and licensing requirements
BQ is calling for practical, evidence-based amendments that support safe, accessible riding for everyone.

Escape to the Noosa Hinterland this May for BQ’s Weekend at Pomona – Bicycle Queensland’s newest off-road adventure weekend designed for intermediate gravel riders, mountain bikers, e-bike explorers, and active families with confident teens aged 12+.
Across two days you’ll discover the best of the Noosa Trail Network and the quiet backroads that weave through open farmland, forests, ridgelines and the character-filled streets of Pomona and the surrounding hinterland. Each day offers a shorter, more dedicated off-road ride option or a longer, more challenging ride that uses more gravel and back roads – all supported by experienced ride leaders, detailed digital mapping, and BQ’s on-ground event team. These routes are all on mixed terrain, swapping between road, trails, gravel roads and firetrails – so expect a bit of everything and bring a bike to suit.
Off-road explorer (Cooran + Pinbarren): 32km, ~750m A scenic loop through Cooran via the Noosa Trail Network and around Mount Pinbarren before a rolling return beneath Mount Cooroora. This route is almost 80% off road, and most riders will prefer a mountain bike for the lower gearing for the main climb.
Go for gravel (Woondum + Kin Kin) 79km, ~1600m A big day out looping Woondum National Park, on a mix of country roads and gravel roads – with some sections of the Noosa Trail Network. This route is about 65% off-road with just a few percent on trail making it an ideal gravel bike challenge. There’s a sting in the tail, but it should leave you with enough energy to enjoy your afternoon in Pomona.
Sunday May 17:
Gravel Explorer – Tewantin National Park: 37km, 500m A gentler morning ride with forest road flow towards Tewantin, before riding back to Pomona. This route is a mix of gravel roads and back roads, with minimal time on pure off-road trails. About 60% is on unsealed roads.
Get out there! – Black Mountain + Noosa Trails: 55km, 1200m A challenging loop exploring Black Mountain and the Noosa Trail Network beyond Pomona. Picture ridgetops roads and climbs to stunning views, with fast descents back to the valleys.

Bicycle Queensland are proud to present a coaching education opportunity, with funding support from the Department of Transport and Main Roads. BQ’s Her Ride program has delivered numerous courses throughout the Greater Brisbane area, aiming deliver safety and skills tuition in a social and supportive setting, mixing social rides with riding tips and creating new networks amongst riders.
In partnership with Ride Technics, BQ have developed a Ride Leader training program to train more coaches in the basics of our Her Ride program.
Bicycle Queensland are committed to expanding the Her Ride offering, and are soon entering into a new agreement with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to deliver Her Ride courses throughout the state over the coming years. To do so we need instructors suitable for the Her Ride program. BQ’s delivery partner, Ride Technics, have put a 3 day course together to cover the Ride Leader essentials for the Her Ride program. The course will cover everything from teaching methodology and skills progression, to developing the right group dynamics and making sure all participants are along for the ride. There is also a practical component, working with riders undertaking an existing Her Ride course.
Participants will gain fundamental coaching about training future Her Ride Program participants through knowledge and skills, and therefore be eligible for coaching employment by Bicycle Queensland for future Her Ride programs in their area.
Program delivery location and dates
The Train the Trainer program will be delivered over 3 days and includes structured skills coaching, supported rides, and confidence-building activities tailored for women riders who want to pursue Her Ride training.
