Brassall Bikeway

The path that links all…

West of Brisbane you can find the very popular Brassall Bikeway. This extraordinary bikeway links North Ipswich, Brassall, Wulkuraka & the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail so you really can choose your adventure.

The bikeway is alligned with the first railway line built in Queensland and is fully paved and safe environment for families with young children. You will spot way finding signs throughout as well as the opportunity to discover the old steam engine & other surprises. The nearby bicycle learning track at Sutton Park is also great for those still on training wheels.

Kedron Brook Bikeway

Mitchelton to Nundah

One of Brisbane North’s most popular bikeway, the Kedron Brook is a great place to get the family out for a ride in the sunshine! The mixture of off-road shared pathways and bikeways stretches from Mitchelton to Nundah.

Along the route families can find local schools, shops, sports clubs and access to creek side parks & picnic facilities. If you’re getting the young ones out riding for the first time or building skills make sure the family brushes up on your Bike Basics & watch the videos here so you will feel confident before heading out.

Kangaroo Point Bikeway

Scenic Inner-city Ride

Brisbane city is a beautiful part of Queensland to ride in & around & the Kangaroo Point Bikeway is the perfect gateway. Starting just west of the Dockside Ferry Terminal the bikeway snakes around the Brisbane River and under the iconic Story Bridge and through Captain Burke Park.

Sounds good? On this ride there is no cars to contend with and heaps of scenic stops including Riverlife where you can enjoy the BBQ facilities and plan a picnic. The path continue along the bottom of the Kangaroo Point cliffs to the Goodwill Bridge where it connects to South Bank or cross the bridge to Brisbane City Botanic Gardens .

Ewen Maddock Dam

The Perfect Introduction to Mountain Bike Riding!

Designed for beginners and catering to families the Ewen Maddock Dam loop (sometimes referred to as Ferny Forest) is the perfect spot to explore nature and build skills.

Pump those pedals and enjoy riding through the ferns, blackbutt forests and soak up the views of Ewen Maddock Dam and the distant Mount Beerwah. The trail is two directional at the start but the rest is a one-way circuit – follow clockwise. There is ample parking off Steve Irwin Way and access accommodates for all conventional vehicles.

This is also a great spot if you are looking to try mountain bike riding as the trail has very few technical features, relatively flat and flowy and has gorgeous views!

Scarborough Cycleway

Grab your bikes & swimmers – it’s adventure time!

The Moreton Bay Region has some of the best foreshore bike paths in South East Queensland. From Scarborough Beach to the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge at Clontarf, riders can enjoy the 11kms of shared paths, ocean views, parks and of course coffee!

While you can start your ride at any point of the cycleway, the best parking spot to entice the kids on a ride is the popular Pirate Park at Scarborough beach. From here, you can cycle 3kms to the Redcliffe Jetty – a great spot for a family photo or a quick stop at the markets on a Sunday.

If you choose too, continue your ride along until the picturesque Settlement Cove Lagoon where in summer you may just want to stop for a quick cool off. Toilets can be found here for a quick swimwear change.

Caboolture to Wamuran Rail Trail

Did Someone say “New Rail Trail”?

That’s right – a brand new rail trail which follows the old Caboolture to Kilcoy railway corridor has fully opened in 2020. After the railway was close in 1964 it has now been turned into a tourism rich resource!

Extending from Beerburrum Road in Caboolture to Atwood Street in Wamuran this 10km (one way) trail showcases the history of the railway while also providing quality shared pathway.

You can do the ride in either direction and there is ample free parking at both ends. There is great end/beginning of trip shelters which include maps, drinking fountains, bike pumps and seating. The start at Beerburrum is also only a 3 minute bike ride from the Caboolture train station!

Mooloolaba to Cotton Tree

Explore the Sunny Coast by Bike!

The Sunshine Coast has long been a family favourite when it comes to heading to the beach, but next time why not pack the bikes too? This leisurely ride offers families a great network of cycle ways and offers some of the best ocean views!

Head down Alexandra Parade and ride past the Alex Surf Club towards Maroochydore. Here you take a right hand turn onto Sixth Avenue and then double back onto the extension of Alexandra Parade. Continue spinning the legs past Maroochydore Surf Club towards the beautiful Cotton Tree.

Choose to head back after a relaxing break at the Cotton Tree Park by the river or you can cross the bridge and continue along Duporth Avenue through to Maroochydore Town Centre. *Please note the map shown below highlights the entire Sunshine Coast Coastal Pathway including the section mentioned.

Bargara Beach to Burnett Headlands

Following the Turtle Trail past Mon Repos

Nothing beats a leisurely ride that meanders along the coast, it always makes for a perfect day out! Parking at Christsen Park is your best bet and then you can gather the family and start your ride along the shared 2m wide bitumen pathway.

For 2km ride along the esplanade pathway until you get to the Bargara Beach camping ground at Neilson Park, all while keeping an eye out for the beautiful turtles painted on the bitumen. From here continue your ride along Holland Street until the start of the Mon Repos Turtle Cycle Track. Continue another 1.2km until you find Mon Repos Road. Turn left and then right into Rookery Road which will then lead you into the Reserve itself where you can ride through until it meets the start of the esplanade pathway. Follow this all the way to Burnett Heads for a longer ride and enjoy!
