Old Stanthorpe Road & Return

Explore South of Warwick

An interesting ride through timbered grazing country awaits just south of Warwick. The hilly terrain & tree lined road offers great wind protection but be wary of the kangaroos which are often spotted along the route.

This is the type of ride that is mostly uphill on the way out, but rewards you with a long lasting downhill on the way back. There are quite a few cycling routes which start in Warwick – find more here thanks to Warwick Cycling.

The Gap to Mt Glorious – D’Aguilar Range

So you like to climb?

The Gap to Mt Glorious and beyond is a great weekend road ride which explores the beautiful rainforest views not too far from Brisbane.

Starting on the corner of Settlement Road and Waterworks Road, wind your way through the several long and challenging climbs and sweeping descents as you climb the ridgeline towards Mt Nebo. While the marked route is a 111km epic, it is also an out and back route.

You maye choose to ride to McAfee’s lookout and return (16km), or maybe Jolly’s lookout and return (35km). If you make it that far it isn’t far to push to Mt Nebo village, which has a couple of cafes as well. That makes a 43km return trip.

If you go further, Mt Glorious Village is about 64km return, with a cafe as your turnaround point. After this – things get interesting. The road along the ridge is stunning, with rainforest either side. It’s not flat, and you’ll still trend upwards from about 660m at Mt Glorious to 780m at Tennison Woods. If you’re going further, make sure you leave Mt Glorious with full water bottles – and pockets.

Some may choose to descend to Wivenhoe Outlook for an 84km ride. The descent to this point is steep, but it gets steeper if you push on, as you go deep into th Mt Glorious Dark Side.

You next turnaround would be Red Cedar Park, making for a 99km return ride (with a big chunk of climbing). But once this far, we would recommend pedalling it out to the end of Northbrook Parkway before turning back. The slight climb up the valley is the perfect warm up for what is a fairly brutal climb back up the dark side of Glorious. Retrace your route all the way back to The Gap.

This is definitely not a ride for the inexperienced! This is a mountain road and expect other road users to do mountain road things.
